How to resize a thumb impression

  1. Take the impression in dark blue or black ink on plain white paper and let it dry.
  2. Photograph or scan it straight on in good light, then choose the file here.
  3. Let the tool trim the surrounding paper, or adjust the crop yourself.
  4. Set the dimensions and maximum file size your form asks for.

Important limitations

Worth knowing before you start, so nothing here comes as a surprise at the point you are submitting a form:

  • This tool does not enhance ridge detail, sharpen a smudged print, or verify that an impression is legible enough for whoever will check it.
  • If the impression is smudged or too faint, take it again — no amount of resizing fixes it.
  • Forms differ on which thumb, what ink and what size. Follow your own form.

How your files are handled

This tool does its work using your browser’s own image and document engine. Your file is read from your device into the page’s memory, processed there, and offered back to you as a download. It is never sent to Fyleit, never written to a server, and never stored anywhere we can reach.

Common problems

The impression came out too dark or blotchy.

Too much ink. Press the thumb on scrap paper once first, then take the impression — the second print is usually cleaner.

Automatic cropping picked up the paper edge.

Place the paper on a white surface rather than a dark table, or crop manually so only the impression is inside the box.

Is my photo or signature uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is processed by your own browser, on your own device. Your photograph and signature are never transmitted to us and never stored. That matters here more than on most tools, because these are identity documents.
Is this an official tool?
No. This is an independent utility with no connection to any government department, examination board or recruitment body. It prepares a file to the dimensions and size you enter — it cannot tell you what your particular form requires, and it cannot guarantee the result will be accepted. Always read the instructions on the form itself.
Which thumb should I use?
That depends entirely on the form; many ask for the left thumb, but not all. Check the instruction on the form itself before you take the impression.
